True Detective Renewed For Season 5 With Issa López Returning

True Detective has been renewed for Season 5 at HBO with Issa López, the creator of Night Country, returning as showrunner under her new overall deal with HBO. With Season 4, López took creative control of the franchise over from creator Nic Pizzolatto, who was behind the first three seasons.

HBO stated that Night Country is the most-watched installment of the show to date, with 12.7 million viewers. This season’s story focused on detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) investigating the disappearance of eight men working at a remote Arctic research station in Alaska.
